Rossington did not disappoint. Her performance as the Countess was entertaining and, singing in Italian, Rossington sounded more assured, with clearer diction and greater depth (both psychological and in terms of vocal timbre). Rossington conveyed the complex emotions required of ‘Dove sono’ well.
Biography
Soprano Erin Rossington was Associate Artist for 2024/25 at the Welsh National Opera. During the season she performed Cercatrice in Suor Angelica and Contessa in Le Nozze di Figaro for WNO. She also performed in the Opera Favourites and New Year Viennese concerts alongside the WNO Orchestra. Last season she sang the role of Micaëla in La Tragedié de Carmen for Buxton International Festival and will cover the role at English National Opera this autumn. A regular on the competition platform, she won International Voice of the Future at Llangollen International Eisteddfod and the prestigious Elizabeth Harwood Memorial Prize at the RNCM in 2019, and the Towyn Roberts Scholarship at the National Eisteddfod of Wales 2023, and this year already, the Dunraven Singing Competiton and Bridgend Male Voice Choirs Diamond Bursary Competition. Erin was also selected as a finalist for the Vincerò competiton in Verona in 2023 and a Semi-Finalist in the Paris Opera Competition earlier this year. Prior to joining the Opera School at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, Erin received Distinction in Master of Music at GSMD, and 1st Class Bachelor of Music degree at the Royal Northern College of Music. Her roles include; Maguelonne Viardot’s Cendrillon, Miss Fortune Miss Fortune, Mimí La Bohemé, Fiordiligi Così fan Tutte, and Vitellia La Clemenza di Tito. Erin made her Snape Maltings debut as Ina in TIDE in 2022, a new commission for Aldeburgh Festival and performed Lady Billows in Albert Herring for Clonter Opera. She is one of four daughters and visits home as often as she can to help her family on their farm, feeling at one with the hills of their mountainous Welsh farm.
